Spring weekend...or is it?

4.28.2009 at 1:29 PM
This past weekend was supposedly spring weekend here up in the wonderful town of Oneonta, New York.  this is the fouth year now that Hartwick and SUNY Oneonta have hosted "OH Fest"-a day of fun for the students and community.  The town closes main street for the street carnival (live music, street vendors, rides, arts &crafts, etc..) and then there's a concert at seven o'clock to finish up the day.  This year, the band selection committee blew it.  For the headlining band, the options were between Eve 6 and Reel Big Fish.  (The latter selection being my choice.) There were no contractual issues with either band and most of the student body was for RBF and somehow, Eve 6 managed to get the gig.  LAME.  These guys have well past their prime.  I saw them once when they were just starting to get somewhere and personally wasn't impressed. Oh, that was about 10 years ago when they were probably in their twenties.  Now they're 30 year old guys in jeans that fit their girlfriends, singing to the 13-15 scene crowd.  For the 5 minutes that i listened to, i was saddened.  Sorry Eve 6, but its time to close this chapter and try something new.  On the bright side, Rahzel was pretty cool.

(I think i may stop procrastinating now actually...this paper is kind of important.)

procrastination.

Once again, its that time of the year when I find myself procrastinating.  But honestly, who really wants to do a 10 page analysis paper on a four and a half minute Atonal piece?  The problem at hand is that i'm running out of ways to entertain myself.(well honestly, I'm not- this is procrastinating.)  So, help keep me entertained and send me a track to listen to (soundcloud button down on the right).  I need some new tunes!

General Motor's Volt - "Fully charged by 2010"

4.24.2009 at 11:30 AM

They may have killed the electric car in the 90's, but GM's latest project, the Chevy Volt, has become the symbol of the company's future.  The Chevy Volt combines the power of battery and gasoline in a sleek, affordable, electric car.  A full charge lasts about 40 miles before a drop of gasoline is used.  With gasoline, the range is extended to 400 miles without a recharge. but who regularly drives over 40 miles and wouldn't get a chance to recharge this puppy though?? General Motors' aim is to provide the average american with a daily, gas-free commute.  In my opinion, the Volt will do just that.  With gas at $3/ gallon, the Volt will pay for itself in about 5 years.  Look out Toyota, this car will be HOT!!  Electric is the new gasoline.  Look for the Chevy Volt in 2010 and support our economy.

The Allman Brothers 'Eat a Peach' album is currently spinning on the iTunes.

Enjoy the sunny Friday afternoon, looks like it's going to be in the 80's all weekend.

Some music for the mind.

Its been a while since my last post, so I thought i'd share a little of what I'm listening to.

Lately I've been really into 'The Bad Plus,' an innovative Jazz Fusion trio out of NYC. They have a very clean, tight, and versatile sound that really draws listeners in. They released their first album called Fresh Sound in 2001 and have several more out.  There most recent album is For All I Care, and features Wendy Lewis on vocals.  For All I Care has a collection of classic covers from Lithium to Comfortably Numb.  I highly recommend it.

They happen to be bloggers too.  check out www.thebadplus.com for their blog, full bio and other good stuff!

You can find For All I Care here in the iTunes store.

Technology

For those of you interested in the music industry, business, marketing yourself and being self sufficient. I highly recommend getting up to date on current tech!

www.Twitter.com is a social network that allows you to 'follow' and be 'followed' by people.  basically, if you use it creatively and appropriately, you could have an update be seen be several hundred people...depending on how many followers you have.  you can follow me at Fenderplyr9009

Blogging... its been around for quite a while, but lately I feel like its really beginning to hit its prime.  there are many different blog sites such as Blogger.com, livejournal, wordpress, etc.. Blogs are incredible marketing tools when used creatively and properly.

Facebook/ Myspace- If you don't have one, get one.  aside from Twitter's community, Facebook and myspace provide a different kind of social network.  both are growing communities and will probably.. if they haven't already.. cause people to never speak in person.

These are just a few technological things that are incredibly useful if you are interested in marketing yourself/ company etc.

over and out.
